More on Disney's "Earth": The Circle Of Inconvenient Half-Truths
“At a time when we are all becoming increasingly aware of global warming and the fragile state of the planet we call home, Earth is a movie of the moment,” [director directors Alastair Fothergill] asserts. But as the world’s premier scientists are suggesting the window on global warming action is closing, and with it our last chance to prevent runaway climate disruption that could unseat homo sapiens and a vast swipe of our cohabitants with us, Earth is careful to never once join the words “global” and “warming.” The closest Jones’s script comes is in referencing the plight of the polar bears.Hot Air » Blog Archive » On second thought, GOP cap-and-trade cost estimates on the money
“Each year as the planet warms,” Jones offers, “there is less and less ice. It’s a disaster for polar bears.”
Supposedly, Earth contains a “subtle, yet powerful” message intended to inspire audiences to rush out and attend to nature, but I could find no reason to worry in the film’s script.
As I’m being handed a young pine tree on my way out of the theater(flown all the way from Holland for Disney’s audiences, I’m told), I reflect that the message reaching the audience is little more than a retrofit of the best of the Wild Kingdoms.
Republican opponents to Barack Obama’s cap-and-trade policy claimed that the costs passed along to the energy consumer would eventually amount to about $3100 a year, calling this a tax by other means. Proponents scoffed at the suggestion, claiming that the actual cost would be less than a tenth of that amount. They cited John Reilly, an MIT professor who claimed that the GOP lied about the study he conducted in order to concoct that number — and organizations from newspapers to Think Progress to MS-NBC and even the Wall Street Journal used his statement to call Republicans liars for the last several weeks. The Hill’s Blog Briefing Room » Al Gore emails DCCC supporters for funds on Earth Day
They may have to eat those words. Professor ["I made a boneheaded mistake in an excel spread sheet"] Reilly has rechecked his figures, and now he says that not only were the Republicans right after all, they actually underestimated the costs to the consumer....
[Gore] I can tell you that President Obama has signaled in the strongest possible terms that he intends to take bold steps and harness innovative resources to solve the climate crisis. Not only that, but Speaker Pelosi has said she will personally shepherd climate legislation through.
But neither of them can do it alone - and the clock is ticking. We need a strong Democratic Majority in Congress and the widespread support of concerned Americans like you.

Al Gore needs money? That is a surprise. He should ask for his own bail out to keep his mansion cool.
