This Earth Day, [mis-]educate one another - Rep. Mike Honda - POLITICO.com
Today’s news about melting caps on arctic poles heralds our tipping point. We cannot forgo this moment, when it is still technologically and economically possible to stem the rise of sea levels, the spread of pandemics, the increasing frequency of catastrophic weather, the emergence of resource conflicts — all of which would incur an untenable cost to our community.

As part of my commitment to educate, I recently reintroduced the Global Warming Education Act, H.R.1926, to create an education program within the National Science Foundation that provides the public with access to information about new technologies, programs and incentives related to energy conservation, renewable energy, and greenhouse gas reduction. This is only one piece of the puzzle, and I pledge to do more.

Widespread understanding of global warming will play a significant role in our ability to address the problem. Through education, we will replace fear and a sense of helplessness with a drive to take action. On this Earth Day and beyond, we must educate one another about climate as if our lives depended on it — because they do.

Rep. Mike Honda (D-Calif.) is a member of the House Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition.
[Bogus] poll reveals Virginians' [alleged] belief in global warming - Roanoke.com
That's the finding of a statewide poll commissioned by the Virginia Environmental Endowment, a nonpartisan group.

There is widespread agreement in the scientific community that the earth's temperature is slowly rising as a result of human activities. Public opinion in Virginia seems to reflect that view -- although there are some dissenters among the experts.

"Just because there are a few blowhards that think otherwise, that doesn't mean they're right," [Gerald McCarthy, executive director of the endowment] said. "The Flat Earth Society still exists, too."
