Science Journalism's Crystal Ball : CJR
Surprisingly, it was the prolific Chris Mooney, the youngest panelist and a prominent member of the new generation of science bloggers, who was the most wary of the future. Mooney, 31, who runs The Intersection in addition to writing magazine pieces and three books, admitted that he sounded like the “old man” of the group, contending that the other panelists were “way over-optimistic.” Mooney said that the consequences of the “dismal and disturbing” cutbacks in traditional mainstream science journalism “are pretty disastrous” and warned against putting too much stock in the online world. “Does the new media offer any real salvation?” asked Mooney. “It’s a Wild West out there. … I fail to see how it replaces what is being lost.”Letter: Washington In Chaos?
He noted that while “science blogs are booming,” there is a lot of competition in the blogosphere from commentators who promote the anti-evolution, anti-global warming, anti-vaccine mindset. “Polemics are more important than accuracy,” said Mooney, and the biggest problem is that people tend to go online looking for things that reinforce their own point of view...
Many citizens see it, but just as many are in denial. Queried recently about the appointments of Carol Browner as his "global warming czar," he waved it off with "ideology does not matter." Browner was a leader (one of fourteen) in a Socialist group calling for "one world government." So oceans have orders of magnitude more heat capacity than the atmosphere.
To think that a free roaming, three atom molecule has any impact on this flow is questionable, but that a change of 10 parts per million will be catastrophic is insane. Carbon dioxide is not a villainous molecule. Soon this hoax will be discredited but it will serve for eternity as an example of the power and danger of group think.AFP: US won't drop cap-and-trade [swindle] auctions: White House

"You should anticipate no changes in our climate proposals," Office of Management and Budget chief Peter Orszag told reporters, despite reported hints that President Barack Obama might now compromise about the auctions.

Obama argues that with the future of the planet at stake, the United States must now take the lead on global warming after years of denial under the former administration of George W. Bush.
