Climate Change? No Prob for Some Big Mammals: Discovery News
June 10, 2009 -- Big mammals might be unexpectedly resilient in the face of global warming, suggests a new study that looked to the past for insights into the future.Analysts argue Japan's 15% carbon cut not enough
The study found that llamas, tapirs, deer and other large mammals changed their diets when glaciers retreated from North America more than a million years ago.
Scientists have long assumed that animals would be rigid about what they ate and what niches they occupied during periods of climate change -- making them especially vulnerable to those shifts.
"This really questions that assumption," said Larissa DeSantis, a paleoecologist at the University of Florida, Gainesville. "We were able to show these animals do change their diets quite dramatically."
"Prime Minister Aso's plan is appalling," said Kim Carstensen, head of WWF's Global Climate Initiative, adding "the new Aso target would mean that Japan effectively gives dirty industries the freedom to pollute without limits for eight years."The Liberal War on Science - HUMAN EVENTS
Liberals pretend to be the advocates for science. President Barack Obama has repeatedly portrayed himself as the world’s leading advocate for scientific progress; in fact, he has consistently touted himself as the man who will “restore our commitment to science.” So why are liberals so ignorant of science?
...
For years, liberals have complained that conservatives ignore science. The truth is that mainstream conservatives often refuse to accept dubious science (e.g. global warming and population bombs). Far more often, it is liberals who ignore hard science in order to promote their agenda of irresponsibility, consequence: free living, and destruction of traditional family values.
