Exploding the core myths of global warming catastrophes
If I do this right, at the end you should be convinced of two things--first, that a lot of people are trying to scare you to advance a political agenda. Second, and don't forget this, that global warming is not a crazy hallucination--it is an issue at about the same level as many other issues we are addressing today, which means we can't ignore it, but we don't have to let it panic us. U.S. Secretary of Energy Steven Chu Friday announced an agreement with the FutureGen Alliance to restart the development of a commercial-scale carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) project outside Mattoon, Illinois.

The Bush administration halted development of the project in February 2008 due to the rising of projected costs.

The Department of Energy's total anticipated financial contribution for the project is $1.073 billion, $1 billion of which comes from Recovery Act funds for CCS research.

US Rep. Peter Welch on Monday announced a $114,000 federal grant to improve the energy efficiency of the O’Brien Community Center in Winooski. The funds will be used to fully insulate the community center’s roof and implement other energy-saving measures. The O’Brien Center spent $4,000 in heating bills last year. Once the new roof is installed, the center is expected to save 45 percent in heating costs.
