It seems nobody is happy with the pledge made by by Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso on Wednesday to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 15 percent compared with 2005 levels.
Questioned after the announcement, the United Nations’ climate chief, Yvo de Boer, suggested that Tokyo’s offer fell far short of what was needed for a global deal later in the year.
For the first time in more than two years on the job, “I don’t know what to say,” Mr. de Boer told a press conference in Bonn.
“The weakest target any country has pledged so far”, said Kristian Tangen of Point Carbon, a research firm that closely tracks trends among companies that making efforts to curb climate change.
