It is a chill season for summer appliances in Kashmir
Srinagar June 17: The consumer durables industry in Kashmir is clouded by a spell of coolness this summer as cold weather has put off consumers from making purchases in summer appliances.

The market for the summer appliances like refrigerators, air conditioners, fans and coolers has dipped approximately by 90 percent, said Shafat Ahmed, a prominent dealer in refrigerators. Shafat, who owns a chain of retail outlets in the city, says the cool weather is inflicting serious damage to his business.

In the midst of the worse automotive industry crisis in a generation, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal is expected to announce today that a new car company will build an almost one million square-foot plant in Monroe, in the northern part of the state. The company, identity to be revealed, is rumored to be planning to produce high-mileage, gas-powered automobiles.

Funding will come at least in part from venture capital company Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, and readers might recognize another name that recently joined the company as a partner: Al Gore.

According to Ledoux, a recent opinion poll conducted by the Taiwan Public Opinion Studies Association showed that the top three environmental issues of concern were landscape preservation, air quality and water quality improvement.
