HOT ISSUE: Should we deliberately move species?
LOS ANGELES - On naked patches of land in western Canada and United States, scientists are planting trees that don't belong there. It's a bold experiment to move trees threatened by global warming into places where they may thrive amid a changing climate.
Global poverty: lobbying politicians this autumn | ToUChstone blog: A public policy blog from the TUC
Over the weekend of 16-18 October 2009, international development campaigners (including trade unionists) will be lobbying MPs and possible Parliamentary candidates all over the UK, calling on them to support some key demands about climate change and global poverty. Events in schools and religious gatherings will also form part of the UK end of a global event organised by the Global Call to Action Against Poverty. In the UK, the weekend will be dubbed ‘The Great Persuasion’, and you can join in.
frogblog » Town and Country at Loggerheads
There was a stark contrast between the Napier consultation meeting on our climate change target, and those in the major cities. We’re now reaping the consequences of several years of misinformation being fed to the farming community about climate science and it is driving the deepest town-country divide I have seen in my lifetime.

Auckland and Wellington had 3-400 people with a big majority arguing for an ambitious, science driven target. Rural and provincial areas are very different, with a very palpable fear of what such a target would do to their livelihoods. The Napier meeting was the only one I was able to attend, but it sounds from what I hear as though it was the one most dominated by climate change sceptics and misinformed, afraid farming folk. Farmers will of course be most disadvantaged by climate change, but if you think it’s all a myth and a hoax you wouldn’t be worried by that.
Freedom's Lighthouse: Hillary Clinton Apologizes for U.S. in India; India Already Rejects Cap and Trade - Video 7/19/09
This is why Obama's Cap and Trade bill is ludicrous. Even if you believe in the wacky man-made Global Warming theory the Democrats have bought into, it will be meaningless to destroy the U.S. economy when clearly India and China will do nothing to reduce their carbon emissions.
