Senator Fielding remains unconvinced that human activity is causing climate change and says there is evidence to show that over the past 15 years global temperatures have not risen in line with escalating carbon emissions.

But he maintains he is not a climate change sceptic, and attended a breakfast speech by climate change guru Al Gore this morning.

"What they do say again with increasing force is that the odds have been shifted so heavily that fires that used to be manageable now threaten to spin out of control and wreak damages that are far beyond what was experienced in the past," he said.
"The planet now has a fever.
"If you have a young child with a fever, you go to the doctor. If the doctor tells you ... you have to take some serious medical action, the typical response from parents is not 'well I was listening to a commentator on the radio the other day and I think you're wrong doctor.' You may ask for a second opinion, and that's what the world has done."
Senator Fielding approached Mr Gore during a launch in Melbourne today to ask for the one-on-one meeting.
Senator Fielding wants to present a graph to Mr Gore which shows temperatures over the last 15 years. He believes the graph shows that increased CO2 emissions aren't causing the world to warm.
"Steve wants to put that in front of (Mr Gore) and see what he has to say," Senator Fielding's spokesman said.
"(Mr Gore) said 'look, the schedule's tight but hopefully we can work something out'.
