The good news? No, it’s not going to snow.
The bad news? It almost felt like it this morning as the mercury plummeted to a record low.
Temperatures dropped to 8 Celsius overnight, smashing the previous record low of 9.4 C set in 1965 while delivering a body blow to Londoners still waiting for evidence of a sustained summer.
Nearly halfway through July, the average temperature is just 17.5 C, down significantly from the historical average of 20.5 C.

But the cool temperatures are causing some concern for corn and soybean farmers.
“No question, some farmers are starting to feel slightly uncomfortable,” said Johnson, adding both crops are behind schedule by about two weeks or more due to the lack of warm temperatures.
“Both of the crops need more heat — yesterday — but we’re not at a point where we’re saying we’re in dire straits.”
