Oregon: Kulongoski may veto bills on biomass rule, wind credits
In the session’s final days, lawmakers decided to lower the maximum state tax credits for large wind projects from $10 million to $3.5 million. Environmental groups objected, saying this isn’t the time to roll back Oregon’s incentives for alternative energy.

King Canute at the G-8 - WSJ.com
European leaders still do pray to the climate gods, and they would love to see the U.S. burden its own industries with the kind of cap-and-tax bill just approved by the House. But even Senate Democrats are getting wise to the political risks they run for tying the economy down with regulatory schemes that America's competitors in Europe and Asia will either flout or ignore.

In the legend of Canute, the king, after failing to stop the rising tide, told the assembled crowd: "Let all men know how empty and worthless is the power of kings, for there is none worthy of the name, but He whom heaven, earth and sea obey by eternal laws." If a medieval monarch could draw the right conclusion, how hard can it be for his sophisticated 21st-century successors?
The Rag Blog: Organic Alternative and the Whole Foods Fraud
Unfortunately neither UNFI and Whole Foods are putting out the essential message to their millions of customers that expanding organics is literally a matter of life or death for public health, climate, and the environment.
The Biggest Scam of Our Times | James Hudnall
“A defining problem for our time”. Yeah, their problem is ramming it down our unwilling throats. Most people don’t believe in it. I doubt they ever did. And yet they are still trying to push it on us despite record cold temps this summer.

It is of utmost importance that this whole thing died a horrible death. Cap and Trade must be defeated and Al Gore needs to become the laughing stock of his day. And Prince Charles can join him on the clueless train. These people are trying to make a depression a lot worse. The Europeans, who were chiding us not long ago are starting to wise up but Obama is still stuck on that train of thought. One that’s as current as disco music and bell bottoms.
The Double Hell Of Science-Led Policy « The Unbearable Nakedness of CLIMATE CHANGE
There we have it all. Excessive confidence in Science. Disregard of anything not already fully boxed-in to the Science (we may call that “skepticism”). Disregard of people’s aspirations and personalities. Victims all around, sacrificed to a hell-on-earth or a higher purpose. And when disaster strikes, a quick hand-washing, blaming Science. Finally, a backlash in the opposite direction, creating a new kind of hell for even more victims.

Is that what the XXIII century book “A Brief History of the AGW Obsession” will talk about?

McKibben's UK visit included meetings with church leaders in Britain, which resulted in a commitment from thousands of churches to ring their bells 350 times during the day.

With 350 at least we know where the curve is. It's arguably the most important number in the world. It sets a boundary condition for our civilisation to work.'
...
I'm 48 and I am twice as old as all the people I work with. My crew are aged 25 and under.'
...
It's the biggest thing human beings have ever done, and it's very much in the next few years that the outcome of this story will be set, past our ability to change it. It matters. A lot.'
