Saturday's high a record low - Peoria, IL - pjstar.com
Central Illinois saw a record-breaking temperature on Saturday, but not for the usual scorching hot July days.

The high in Peoria was 71 degrees, which is the lowest high temperature on record, according to the National Weather Service in Lincoln.

The previous record was 74 degrees, which was set in 1892 and tied in 1939.

Des Moines dropped to 58 degrees at 11:59 p.m. Friday, 5 degrees shy of the record-low of 53 set on the same day in 1906.

"If we didn't have the cloud cover around, we certainly would have broken it last night," said Ben Moyer, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service.
Flashback: Fighting climate 'fluff'
"I have studied their climate models and know what they can do," Prof. [Freeman] Dyson says. "The models solve the equations of fluid dynamics and do a very good job of describing the fluid motions of the atmosphere and the oceans. They do a very poor job of describing the clouds, the dust, the chemistry and the biology of fields, farms and forests. They do not begin to describe the real world that we live in."
