Blue Dogs returning home to their conservative districts can trumpet the fact that they put the brakes on a healthcare bullet train, an especially important accomplishment after having seen a climate change bill that played poorly in many of their districts rushed through the House and smack into a dead end in the Senate.
AP sources: Govt to suspend 'cash for clunkers'
WASHINGTON (AP) - The government plans to suspend its popular "cash for clunkers" program amid concerns it could quickly use up the $1 billion in rebates for new car purchases, congressional officials said Thursday.

The Transportation Department called lawmakers' offices to alert them to the decision to suspend the program at midnight Friday.

A new National Climate Service charged with making detailed national and regional climate forecasts is "badly needed" to help individuals, companies and all levels of government to make plans, Locke told the Senate Commerce Committee.

"We need to understand what's coming down the road," Locke said. "So many people are going to be dependent on this information for investment decisions."
