This year’s late and heavy winter is making navigating the passage more difficult this year. President Lee Myung-bak urged the public to join government efforts to fight climate change by adopting a more environmentally-friendly lifestyle.

In his bi-weekly radio address on Monday the President stressed the importance of reducing carbon gas emissions, saying that the erection of so-called "carbon trade barriers" could be a critical blow to the export-driven Korean economy. This environment protectionist measure is under consideration by some major economies, including the U.S., to levy on imported emission-extensive goods.
