I wonder just how much this cool summer will affect the thinking of our Washington-based decision makers as they make their way to the summit in Copenhagen, Denmark. We are left again with the question. Is this recent spate of strange weather just a bit of bad luck or another major oscillation on the way to a global warm-up? This weather watcher is still firmly on the climate change fence.

COUNCIL workers in Salford will be trained to drive carefully in a bid to save fuel - and the planet.

The measure is on a list of projects which make up of Salford's 'carbon management plan' which bosses say could save the authority £5m a year.
Called 'eco-driving', it entails 'training all drivers to drive in a conservative manner to save on fuel'. Devices will be fitted to all council vehicles to maximise fuel efficiency.

Coun Karen Garrido, Tory opposition leader, said: "Why do our drivers need to be retrained? They just need to be told not to crunch gears and drive madly - they don't need retraining. This is loony."
