this and other CCS stories are meant to convince us that de-industrializing and living without any technology is the only realistic way to prevent climate change and survive, it's meant to portray technological solutions as crazy, out of control and foolish, so the "mad scientists" have to be overruled and a return to medieval standards of living has to be enforced
