The results, presented by Dr Lorraine Whitmarsh, a lecturer in Environmental Psychology at Cardiff University, to the British Science Festival, showed double the number of people now think that claims that human activities are changing the climate are exaggerated.

Nicolas Sarkozy today vowed to lead the fight to "save the human race" from global warming, launching a carbon tax to encourage French families and industry to cut their use of fossil fuels.

In a speech peppered with harsh warnings about the need for France to take the lead in fighting climate change, the president said: "There are no reserves left. It's a question of survival of the human race." He said his aim was to change French habits to prepare for a post-petrol economy, reduce consumption of fossil fuels and tax people for actions that were damaging to society. "There is one objective: to encourage homes and businesses to change their behaviour."

i wonder how Sarkozy wants to justify rationing electricity in France? they have 80% nuclear power there, so to achieve their actual goal, -to ration our lifestyles -, they have to spin the debate and make it all about cars
