That abundant storage space—enough to hold 2,300 gigatons of carbon dioxide–is good news because it should make it easier and cheaper for China to store carbon emissions, if it ever does adopt large-scale carbon capture. The report figures storage costs could be as low as $2 to $8 a ton—or roughly half what experts figure it will cost in the U.S.
