Thomas Becker, who has been called the right hand man of Minister for Climate and Energy Connie Hedegaard, resigned last week and was replaced by senior diplomat Steffen Smidt, a ministry official said on Monday.
The move so close to the Dec. 7-18 meeting coincided with growing worries about whether governments will reach a deal after talks in Bangkok made little progress. Only one more meeting, in Barcelona next month, remains before negotiators come to Denmark.

Chu's comments contrasted with the head of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Carol Browner who said 10 days ago she did not expect the U.S. Senate to act in time.
Municipalities are examining other approaches to treating animal waste as well. There's a hope that the methane gas emitted by heated pet feces can be harnessed for its energy as electricity, natural gas and even fuel, instead of leaching into the atmosphere where it may contribute to global warming.
