Harper faces pressure to be green in Copenhagen

In fact, one of the first experiments to manage a forest carbon bank has already run into trouble. Twelve years ago, The Nature Conservancy and the Bolivian government set aside a forest in Bolivia called Noel Kempff Mercado. They closed down saw mills and stopped cutting timber. Experts predicted that over 30 years, that would reduce carbon dioxide from deforestation by 55 million tons. Now, they say, it's more like 5 1/2 million tons.Expert: Area has coldest October since '52
That's not a failure, say experts at the conservancy: They simply know more now about storing carbon in trees — knowledge they can share with others planning similar carbon banks.
It's been so frosty that records show it's the coldest October in northern Michigan since 1952, according to the National Weather Service.Australian Climate Madness: "350" Protest - that's the number that turned up…

"Grapes are struggling. Tomatoes tanked this year because we didn't have the heat and warmth to ripen them and we had wet weather that caused blight," said Nikki Rothwell, coordinator at the Northwest Michigan Horticultural Research Station in Leelanau County.

Lake Michigan already is five degrees cooler than normal at this time of year, a situation that may lead to heavy ice cover similar to last winter. That could mean less lake-effect snowfall, but won't mitigate snow-carrying storms, Boguth said.
All the moonbat media are talking this up as if it's a big deal, but of course, the pictures tell a different story.Global Warming “Experts” Nervous
[comment here] The worst flaw in the AGW argument is the treatment of GCM computer generated outputs as data. They then use it in follow on hypotheses. For example, if temperature rises by X degrees in 50 years, then Y will be effected in such-and-such a way resulting in Z. Then the next person comes along and says, well, if Z happens, the effect on W will be a catastrophe. “I need (and deserve) more money to study the effects on W.” Hypotheses, stacked on hypotheses, stacked on more hypotheses, all based on computer outputs that are not data, using a process that does not lend to proof using the SCIENTIFIC METHOD. Look at their results, IF, MIGHT, and COULD are used throughout their news making results. And when one of the underlying hypotheses is proven incorrect, well, the public only remembers the doomsday results 2 or three iterations down the hypotheses train. The hypotheses downstream are not automatically thrown out and can even be used for more follow on hypotheses.Alaska Vows To Fight Polar Bear Protection With Lawsuits, Disses Climate Change : EcoWorldly
Now that the polar bear is about to receive over 128 million acres of critical habitat designation, the state of Alaska is taking legal action to challenge the decision.
Following the announcement that threatened polar bears are set to receive over 128 million acres of critical habitat designation, Alaska Governor Sean Parnell and Attorney General Dan Sullivan responded by taking legal action against federal protection of polar bears.

Yeah,,,I'm kinda cynical, I guess.
The first thing that popped into my mind was that the polar bears aren't the issue at all--rather they're merely a timely pretext for control of the minerals that lie beneath that massive swath of land.
If the feds control it, it is one set of rules and if the state controls it, it is another. That spells big bucks, no doubt about it, and I believe is the real reason for their actions.
I mean--seriously--have either of the disputants ever really cared about the polar bear (or the indigenous people, for that matter) before? That is--other than beyond the continuing of some funded pet study?
It seems that if a resource doesn't make lots of dough, it simply isn't being 'exploited properly', and to hell with any other environmental or long-term considerations.
I predict that it will be the undoing of mankind on this once incredibly beautiful earth.
Regretfully,,,cynically,,,John
