BATH, Maine -- A group of military veterans from Maine is calling on Maine's U.S. senators to support a global warming bill under debate in Washington.

Speaking at a news conference at Bath City Hall on Thursday, retired Maj. Gen. Donald Edwards of South Bristol and two other veterans urged passage of the Clean Energy Jobs and American Power Act.

The Senate Environment and Public Works chairwoman said today that she won't schedule hearings and a markup of global warming legislation until U.S. EPA completes its analysis of the measure.

Senate aides for both Democrats and Republicans expressed doubts today that the hearings will begin on Oct. 20 as Boxer had originally intended, meaning the markup likely won't start until November.

Rail is so expensive to build and operate, and so inflexible in its routes and service structure, that once constructed it sucks resources from other modes (especially buses)... Light rail is in effect a shifting of transit focus from serving the poor to serving the middle class (who wouldn’t be caught dead on a yucky old bus but who like trains).
