The decision by Senate Democrats to give away large numbers of pollution permits angered some environmentalists, who noted that doing so would favor wealthier Americans who owned stock in companies affected by a national carbon cap.

The EPA analysis issued Friday said that the "free distribution of allowances to firms tends to be very regressive. . . . This is because the asset value of the allowances flows to households in the form of increased stock values or capital gains, which are concentrated in higher-income households."

US carbon [swindle] legislation could decide plant site - Nucor
AP reported that Nucor Corporation indicated that the possible cost of any carbon legislation that emerges from Congress is still a key concern as the company decides whether to build a pig iron plant in Louisiana or South America.

As per report, Nucor is considering a site near Convent in St James Parish, along with another in Brazil, for the USD 2.1 billion project that would initially employ 500 people at an annual average salary of USD 75,000. It would be one of Louisiana's largest economic development projects ever.
Crist to skip Obama visit to Arcadia

Crist's appearance with Obama in February did not appear to be much of a gamble then. Obama's approval ratings were in the 70s and Crist was a 30-point favorite to beat primary opponent Marco Rubio.
