State rep: Cap and trade 'insidious' » Times Record News
The chairman of the Texas House Energy Resources Committee on Thursday called cap-and-trade legislation under consideration in Washington one of the “most far-reaching, insidious” bills ever considered by Congress.

“Texas is in the crosshairs. It (cap and trade) would be a rifle shot to our economy,” Rep. Jim Keffer, R-Eastland, said of the proposals on Capitol Hill.

Keffer warned that if cap and trade becomes law, Americans will see their utility bills rise 30 to 40 percent, and he predicted massive job losses.

“In this bill, if you want to sell your house, it would have to be checked out by some federal agency to see if your appliances are as energy efficient as possible. If they’re not, you have to replace them,” he said.

Consumption of energy-intensive goods and services should be cut and remain capped until low-carbon alternatives are available, said the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research.

“That may mean having only one car per household, a smaller fridge, buying fewer clothes and electronic goods and curtailing the number of weekend breaks that we have.

"We must not be prisoners of the past," he said in his radio and Internet address. "Don't believe the misinformation out there that suggests there is somehow a contradiction between investing in clean energy and economic growth. It's just not true."

"living standards" - can someone who lives next to a nuclear plant keep his living standard, assumed he has an electric car? after all, he won't emit a single gram of CO2 no matter how many Megawatt hours he selfishly consumes
