MALCOLM Turnbull has escalated the war with emissions trading rebels in his party, slamming MPs anonymously briefing against him as "smart-arses".

And he took a swipe at climate sceptics in his party, saying their approach would lead to electoral annihilation.

“If you want to go out there on the climate sceptic platform, believe me you'll get about 15 per cent of the people voting for you,” he said.
