Some Boulder residents understandably object to City Council members using their tax dollars to attend an overseas conference. We can debate whether global climate issues is an appropriate concern of a city government, or whether a physical presence at the conference is worthwhile. But would there be much hubbub if the council members were not traveling on the taxpayers’ dime? As CU Professor Roger Pielke Jr. suggested on his blog, a “more politically savvy Council would have...secured external sponsorship” to fund the trip.

But, as much as DeChristopher wants to slow down climate change, he also wants to stay out of prison. Becker asked him why not just accept a prison sentence, write a book and make your point. DeChristopher says Gore is getting too political and compromising too much by supporting a new bill in Congress that asks for smaller decreases in greenhouse gases that he did last year. Last year Gore was advocating civil disobedience, he said, to stop global warming. Now Gore is backing off and DeChristopher says that's wrong.
