Former Vice President Al Gore on "Saturday Night Live": "I'm Gonna Start Acting Crazy" to Draw Attention to Green Issues - Speakeasy - WSJ
But it was the Gore visit that stood out. The former presidential candidate was there to mark NBC’s “Green Week” and to promote his book “Our Choice: A Plan to Solve the Climate Crisis.”

He first appeared on a sketch that was a parody of a BET news show called “What Up With That?”–a program that addressed “the issues of the day with soul.”

The joke of the bit is that every time Gore tries to talk about his book or the environment, the host sings his words. Later, Gore is joined on the circus-like show by a pro-wrestler, a singer “from the future,” and a dancing clown.

Gore’s appearance on “Weekend Update” with Seth Meyers was the standout bit.

He went on to say that “we are at a critical moment when it comes to the climate crisis” and so to draw attention to the problem “I’m gonna start acting crazy.” He talked about the pranks he plans to pull on people in power to do that. “Instead of science, I’m going with crazy,” he said.

Animal rights activists will also be happy to hear that he ended the skit by decrying factory farming and urging more sustainable agriculture.

Just in case you still think Jones is just some no-name boffin toiling pitifully in academia's climate change coal mines, one file in the exposed CRU records reveals that he has collected 13.7 million in grants since 1990. Remember this the next time you hear anyone talking about all the oil company money being funneled to we evil denialists. As one commenter wrote on America's National Public Radio website: "I've been working around scientists milking this scam for a decade for grant money. Most will admit it's BS when you pour enough beers into them, but hey, the money's good."

Scientist Ben Santer is quoted as saying he would like to "talk to a few of these (sceptics) in a dark alley".

One email from Professor Jones to Michael E. Mann, director of the Earth System Science Centre at Pennsylvania State University, has as the subject line: "John L. Daly dead".

It is dated just hours after Daly collapsed from a heart attack in his home in Launceston, on January 29, 2004, shortly after doing an interview with the BBC.

The email says: "Mike, in an odd way, this is cheering news!" and it attaches the death notice placed by Daly's family. The family yesterday said they had no comment.
