The respective Minchin and Turnbull views on climate change cannot be reconciled. Minchin has framed the issue in philosophical and ideological terms, arguing that rejection of the climate change argument is a necessity for the political right in its larger fight with the left. ''For the extreme left it provides the opportunity to do what they've always wanted to do, to sort of de-industrialise the Western world,'' he told Four Corners. ''You know, the collapse of communism was a disaster for the left … and really they embraced environmentalism as their new religion.''
