Western lifestyle unsustainable, says climate expert Rajendra Pachauri | Environment | The Observer
Ahead of the Copenhagen summit, leading scientist and IPCC chair Rajendra Pachauri warns of radical charges and regulation if global disaster is to be avoidedFlashback-UN climate panel head formed global consensus

Hotel guests should have their electricity monitored; hefty aviation taxes should be introduced to deter people from flying; and iced water in restaurants should be curtailed, the world's leading climate scientist has told the Observer.
...
He said that he also believed car use would have to be "curbed"...
[Pachauri] spends much of his time travelling and speaking on climate change at international fora and jokes he "lives at 30,000 feet".Climate change denier Nick Griffin to represent EU at Copenhagen | Environment | The Observer
Nick Griffin, the leader of the British National party, is to represent the European parliament at the UN climate change conference in Copenhagen, which opens next week.
Last night politicians and scientists reacted furiously to news that the far-right politician and climate change denier should be attending the summit on behalf of the EU.

How did Pachauri, an economist and engineer, become the world's leading climate scientist??? There seems to be a lot of economists who also double as climate scientists. Now these nuts want to take away ice water. It's beyond insanity and they are showing their desperation. They look so stupid in the light of the hacked e-mails.
If Pachauri proves right about the unsustainability of the Western lifestyle, then won't we be as likely to learn that and respond to it in a free enterprise or Capitalist system as in a socialist government dictation system? History would say that we will be better able to respond to the need for change without government interference and planning. In fact, our economies would likely just simply evolve to make any necessary corrections. After all, we did manage to solve the horse problem and the pollution problem due to horse manure in city streets by developing the automobile in a timely way!
The anthropogenic global warming alarmist thesis is two-fold: 1) man's emissions of CO2 are causing a major warming effect, and 2) that effect is catastrophic for man (or for the extreme environmentalists, for the planet). Leaving out the extreme environmentalists, most people are concerned with whether the warming will be catastrophic for man and this is the part of the problem that economists are justifiably greatly involved with assessing.
I find as the "debate" hots up, the more radical nutters appear - limiting ice water - if this cahp is so serious, maybe stop flying every where and walk you hypocrite....
I see similarities in GW proponents and a ex-teacher chap in the 1980s in Cambodia who "re-educated" many people in camps...
Pachauri an economist! puts him in the same camp as Lord Stern who suddenly became a leading climate scientist whilst knowing zero about climate science. Hansen also claims to be a climate scientist but his PhD was in Astrophysics.Meanwhile the real climate csientists, like Richard Lindzen and Bob Carter, are being ignored!

It strikes me, then, that Nick Griffin is an ideal representative to send to Copenhagen. It's about time someone stood up for the underdogs. more strength to his elbow.
