Julie's Health Club: How cold weather affects your health
If your joints are groaning loudly these days, go ahead and blame the cold weather. Frigid temperatures have long been associated with inflammatory conditions such as arthritis and joint pain that can affect the hips, knees, elbows, shoulders and hands, according to this piece in the Winter issue of Well magazine, Swedish Covenant Hospital's health and wellness publication.

Researchers aren't exactly sure why cold weather makes us so stiff and sore, but joints contain sensory nerves that respond to changes in atmospheric pressure, said Ronnie Mandal, an internal medicine physician at Swedish Covenant.

The economic argument for “business-as-usual” is also weak. True, wind and solar power may cost a bit more, but energy prices are likely to rise anyway as oil supplies dwindle. A carbon tax could be returned to taxpayers, benefiting those who conserve energy or switch to alternative sources. The highest cost of all might be doing nothing. Just the cost of dealing with rising sea levels alone might make the current national debt look small by comparison, and Delaware has every right to be concerned!

I suppose we could now have a debate as to whether more CO2 is expended shipping the snow in or jetting off to an area where it occurs natuarally.
Light Emitting Wallpaper Could Replace Bulbs by 2020
A new light emitting wallpaper could be the answer to global warming as rooms of the future could replace bulbs entirely in place of specially formulated flexible LED surfaces.

The technology is being developed by LOMOX Ltd, a welsh start-up which won a grant from the Carbon Trust of £454,000 ($720,000) to bring organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) to the commercial market.

Estimates predict that 2.5 million tonnes of CO2 could be saved if all modern lighting was replaced with OLEDs by 2020.
