(AP) — ALBANY, N.Y. - Gusty northwest winds combined with low temperatures are pushing the wind chill into the single digits or lower across New York state.

Temperatures plunged to the upper 30s overnight, prompting area shelters to open their doors and the National Weather Service to issue a wind-chill advisory this morning for Brevard County.

"It's the second real significant cold snap we've had this season so far," said Tony Cristaldi, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Melbourne.
