Palin displays her ignorance of science, but... | Gather
When Sarah Palin sneers at Al Gore for devising "doomsday scenarios", well, she is not upset about doomsday scenarios per se. Such scenarios would be fine if they were written by LaHaye and Jenkins in their "left behind" series of novels. Such scenarios would be fine if they included the Rapture, and Armageddon, and the four horsemen of the Apocalypse. But a science-based threat to human survival? That bother her mostly because it runs against the religion based one. There is only room for one apocalypse in her little head. Two is one too many.

Portland, ME | Cold weather helps ski areas open early
AUBURN, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The cold weather has been good to one group of people -- skiers!

Even smaller ski areas, like Lost Valley, have opened this weekend. Sometimes, Lost Valley doesn't have skiing until January. The cold weather has allowed for prime snowmaking conditions, even if the ski area isn't going to get much snow out of this storm.

Topcliffe, Yorkshire sits at -13C, coldest in England in a few years
Topcliffe as of 9am this morning was sitting at a cold -13.1C or 8 degrees F. With a ESE wind at only 6mph, it feels more like -19C or -2F there... That's a decent cold morning there.
