Should we be surprised that the British public, confronted by this ugly combination of myopic hypocrisy and doommongering, is becoming increasingly sceptical?

[update from a colleague] Many people who are not sympathetic to the interventions we just heard now seem to see Obama as arrogant and insensitive for flying in, trying to get the COP to do what we want, and flying out before the deal was even done. It was extremely unwise to announce an agreement at a press conference before sharing it with countries that had not yet seen it, but would be asked to endorse.

The disconnect between the gaseous halations of various grandstanding “world leaders” about the supposedly urgent need to “Save The Planet Now” and the puny outcome of the Copenhagen Non-Event is dazzling. And it is welcome.

For all the rhetoric – or the flatulence that passes for rhetoric these days – it has begun to dawn on the “leaders” of those nations that subject them to regular recall and re-election that the people no longer believe the mad scientists are telling them the truth. And the people are right.
