Under heat, climate-change contrarian won't wilt - The Globe and Mail
[Bjorn Lomborg] People say, you shouldn't be a climate-science denier, and I agree. But likewise you shouldn't be a climate-economics denier. And in doing the numbers, we're saying that if you want to keep the temperature rise at two degrees centigrade by cutting carbon emissions, by the end of the century it's going to end up costing 13 per cent of the global GDP. And the benefit will be that for every dollar you spend, you end up avoiding two cents worth of climate damage. That's an incredibly bad dealClimategate Used to Settle 'Vendetta,' Says [fraudster] Mann
"I think it is unfortunate that some scientists out there are using this situation to settle personal scores, to settle a vendetta," Mann said, in an exclusive interview with AccuWeather.com's Katie Fehlinger.Collide-a-scape » Blog Archive » Collide-a-scape >> The Upside to Climategate

"My main interest right now is to make sure that this manufactured controversy does not distract policy makers," said Mann.
Ultimately, Mann feels that scientists are not holding climate change data back from the public.
"The community is doing a good job at putting the data out there... there really is nothing to hide," Mann said.
More typical are the shrugs exhibited by Kevin Drum (”As near as I can tell, ClimateGate is almost entirely a tempest in a teacup”) and David Roberts, who can’t be bothered to see what all the fuss is about:Transcript: Jon Stewart on ClimateGate: 'Poor Al Gore - Global Warming Debunked Via Internet You Invented' | NewsBusters.orgI haven’t read the emails. I’ll leave it to others to determine whether a few scientists or a few papers deserve a newly critical eye.
STEWART: (Laughing) See, I tell you it's nothing. He was just using a trick to hide the decline. It's just scientist speak for using a standard statistical technique recalibrating data in order to trick you into not knowing about the decline. But here's what's great about science: in disagreement, we go back and look at the raw data.GOP grills Obama officials on climate e-mails; scientists say warming concerns still legit

STEWART: Oh for f**k's sake! Why would you throw out raw data from the '80s? I still have Penthouses from the '70s! Laminated. What did you keep?
In the first Capitol Hill airing of the issue, House Republicans read excerpts from at least eight of the e-mails, saying they showed the world needs to re-examine experts’ claims that the science is settled. One e-mail from 2003 was by John Holdren, then of Harvard University and now the president’s science adviser.12 Days, 3 Networks and No Mention of ClimateGate Scandal

“These e-mails show a pattern of suppression, manipulation and secrecy that was inspired by ideology, condescension and profit,” said U.S. Rep. James Sensenbrenner, R-Wis.
The science is proper and this is about a small fraction of research on the issue, said Holdren, a physicist who has studied climate change.
An examination of morning and evening news programs on ABC, CBS and NBC since Nov. 20 yielded zero mentions of the scandal, even in the Nov. 25 reports about Obama going to Copenhagen to discuss the need for emissions reductions. But during the same time period, the networks reported on pro-golfer Tiger Woods’ “minor” car accident at least 37 times. They also found time to report on an orphaned Moose and the meal selection at the president’s State Dinner.
