The freeze was unprecedented, not for its low temperatures, but its duration, Bournique said. Growers recorded below freezing temperatures for 13 days in some parts of the state.
“Nobody alive has ever lived through something like this, and I’m talking everyone from the research scientists to the growers,” Bournique said. “Nobody is really sure what that length of a freeze will do to a citrus tree.”
