Judging by the comments in the Guardian the warm ones are happy because the retracted paper was too conservative.

Yet another example of the idea that only world ending predictions suit these people.

Funnily enough the staple joke of the left is that right wingers are all fire and brimstone. And yet it's always them screaming that 'the end is nigh'

Sea level rise with respect to coral islands is but one input into an exceedingly complex system. Charles Darwin recognized long ago that these islands grow upwards in response to rising sea levels. The rate of upward coral growth versus the sea level rise must be considered in association with many other variables.

It is also important to note that relative sea level can (and is) rise from the land sinking due to natural geologic factors--- Interesting that only anthropogenic causes demand attention.
