Rancher Jack Chatfield sees untapped value in the spaces that lie beneath New Mexico's dusty landscape. But he said the state needs to first decide who owns them.

Scientists are looking at underground fissures and caverns as places where carbon dioxide emissions captured from fossil fuel power plants can be stored. Carbon emissions are among the greenhouse gases blamed for global warming. The underground space also could store compressed air as part of a process to generate clean electricity.

The last thing that the Obama administration and USEPA Administrator Lisa Jackson want to do is to try to regulate greenhouse gases through the Clean Air Act. It would be a nightmare for the USEPA, creating enmity among large swathes of the populace, forcing people to reassess the shaky science behind global warming and it would take many, many years to implement the regulatory measures necessary to actually reduce these emissions. The Clean Air Act threat is a desperate attempt at extortion, with the ultimate goal of forcing a pointless cap and trade bill down our throats.

For the first time, the Pentagon’s primary planning document addresses the threat of global warming, noting that it will accelerate instability and conflict around the globe. Former Senators John Warner (R-VA) and Hillary Clinton (D-NY) added language requiring the department to consider the effects of climate change on its facilities, capabilities, and missions to the 2008 National Defense Authorization Act.

ADB to fund "study" on climate change in NE Asia CCTV-International

The study, Economics of Climate Change and Low Carbon Growth Strategies in Northeast Asia, is being financed by a technical assistance grant of 1 million U.S. dollars from ADB, and 800,000 U. S. dollars of grant from the Government of the Republic of Korea. It will cover four countries - China, Japan, Republic of Korea and Mongolia.

"The purpose of this assistance is to raise awareness about the urgency of climate change challenges in the region," said Tae Yong Jung, study team leader and Senior Climate Change Specialist in ADB's East Asia Department.
