We may infer from the evidence now in the public domain that a conscientious whistleblower leaked the proof of the crimes onto the Internet. There is not a shred of evidence pointing to any ‘hacker.’ Any further self-serving nonsense from the British Government that they intend to pursue prosecutions only against the whistleblower and nothing against those who have been engaged in the alleged greatest scientific fraud of all time constitutes malfeasance of public office.

This fight is contentious enough without mistrust of the underlying science being added to the mix. We face a long and difficult debate that requires not only the resolution of many difficult scientific questions, but also the reconciliation of the different risk profiles, long-term discounting rates, and equality preferences of many heterogeneous constituencies, not all of whom will ultimately benefit from carbon mitigation. If we are to succeed, we must take every action to ensure that climate research does not unfairly quash dissenting views. In the case of CRU, we must remove any researcher who attempted to circumvent the Freedom of Information Act. For other research units, such as ours at MIT, we must take care to foster a research environment that is tolerant of dissent and does not institutionalize a prejudice against climate change skepticism. That may seem unfair, especially when others do not constrain themselves to follow the same rules. But if science is going to effectively support policy, that is the standard we must hold ourselves to.

The leaks in the dam they built at CRU and the IPCC get bigger and bigger. Only a fraction of the dirty water has escaped but will continue to emerge. Meanwhile the cover-up has begun. The University of Pennsylvania has a whitewash with an internal review committee. They also announce they are conveniently not subject to the Freedom of Information Act. They did not interview major players in the fiasco including Steve McIntyre who discovered Michael Mann’s hockey stick fraud. In England the temporary director of the CRU says Jones will be completely vindicated and reinstated. The person appointed to do the English investigation has a history of total commitment to the global warming alarmists view. Some of the IPCC affiliates, such as Andrew Weaver are climbing out of the lake and running for the trees. The mainstream media continues to ignore the issue, but the millions of eyes and minds on the Internet are exposing the cracks in the dam and the sewage that is emerging.
