Post Carbon: Coal-state Dems hit EPA on climate - Juliet Eilperin
Sen. John D. Rockefeller (D-W.Va.) and several other coal-state Democrats sent a bluntly worded letter to Environment Protection Agency administrator Lisa P. Jackson Friday night challenging the agency's authority to regulate greenhouse gases from power plants and other industrial sources.

The Rockefeller letter--which was also signed by Democratic senators Mark Begich (Alaska), Robert C. Byrd (W.Va.), Sherrod Brown (Ohio), Pat Casey (Pa.), Claire McCaskill (Mo.), Carl Levin (Mich.), and Max Baucus (Mont.)--poses a serious challenge for the Obama administration. While the administration is still pushing for Congress to pass a climate bill this year, it has not ruled out controlling greenhouse gases through regulation.
What the weatherman never said - Telegraph
Even after the "hockey stick" had been devastatingly exposed as no more than the result of trickery with a computer program, an "invention" far more damaging than any misquoting of his own words, Sir John was still defending it in front of the US Congress as if it were gospel truth. As a propagandist, he might still do the same today. But as a Christian scientist, might the beginning of Lent not be an appropriate time for him to engage in a little repentance of his own?

The linear least squares regression equation is included and shows more of a downtrend in height (-.83mm/yr or -8.3cm/century) vs. the 0/100 dbar graph in the original post.
“UK Govt’s Chief Adviser on Climate Change” « Climate Audit
Someone who is billed at the openings of Coca Cola plants in Romania as the ‘UK Govt’s Chief Adviser on Climate Change’ hardly fits Muir Russell’s promise of having “no links to either the University or the Climate Science community”.

The University of East Anglia already has a hard enough time dealing with problems created by CRU. By betraying Russell’s promise to the university community, Russell and Boulton are being profoundly unfair to not only the staff, but the students of the university.

Exploring the increasingly influential community of online bloggers [do offline bloggers tend to be less influential?] who take aim at climate-change science

In the wake of the scandal, blogs that question the reality of man-made global warming have surged in public attention, leading new readers to websites such as Wattsupwiththat.com (run by weatherman Anthony Watts) and climatedepot.com (run by conservative activist Marc Morano). The sites' rising popularity, and the growing influence they appear to wield in shaping public debate, is deeply worrying to the scientific community.

Science journalist Chris Mooney, co-author of the 2009 book Unscientific America: How Scientific Illiteracy Threatens Our Future, calls the Internet a “complete Wild, Wild West for scientific information.”

Mr. Mooney thinks the belief in the reality of man-made global warming, which is the overwhelming consensus in the scientific community, is losing ground in public opinion because of these blogs. “It's a drumming,” he laments. “If it's a football game, it would be 56-0.”

AN EPIC GAME OF NITPICKING

One little-known irony of the debate is that for all the harsh words, many scientists have a grudging respect for Mr. McIntyre's intelligence. “He could be a scientific superstar,” Mr. Schmidt says. “He's a smart person. He could be adding to the sum total of human knowledge, but in effect he adds to the reduction of the sum total of human knowledge.”
