Be Fire-Safe While Participating in Earth Hour
TORONTO, March 25 /CNW/ - To prevent property loss and fire- related injuries, the Ontario Fire Marshal is strongly recommending that people use flashlights, battery-operated lanterns or flameless candles for light, instead of candles, during Earth Hour on March 27. On that evening, millions of Ontarians are expected to turn off their lights at 8:30 p.m. to help reduce electricity consumption and create awareness about climate change.
Turbine firm won’t say how much it will make
A spokesman for the company said there were no capital subsidies involved, but said of the turbines’ earning potential, “At the moment, that is commercially confidential and can’t be disclosed.”

That explanation cut no ice with local man Bill Stevenson, whose Dundee Road home would overlook the Stannergate site identified for the huge turbines.

“Commercial confidentiality? That’s just a catch-all,” he said.

“I’m a real sceptic when it comes to man-made global warming, but I think these companies use it as another angle to get the turbines built. Let’s face it, they wouldn’t be doing it if they weren’t going to make money from it.”

That’s very good timing for reasons I’ll explain as the moment nears.

Our liberal friends may be inclined to think that if a program fails at a local level, it’s only because it wasn’t sufficiently well-funded, or intrusive, or uniform, or global. For the rest of us on both sides of the Atlantic, the ETS is a cautionary tale in how quickly environmental policy engineering degrades into rent-seeking for the fortunate few.
