The largest die-off of manatees in recorded history has taken place in Florida as a result of the state's prolonged, record-low temperatures this winter.

A total of 368 manatees have died in Florida waters so far this year, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC). The unprecedented number of deaths in less than three months is just 61 shy of the number of manatees that died in all of 2009, 429, which itself was a record, said Katie Tripp, Save the Manatee Club's director of science and conservation.

In its third week of food distribution, the Salvation Army of Collier County still needs food for Immokalee residents.

The Salvation Army opened a food distribution center in Immokalee to assist farmwokers following the crop-killing freeze in January which left many with little to no work.

The agency is providing a box of food on a weekly basis to more than 850 farmworkers for three more weeks — a total of six weeks. Food distribution will continue until the week of April 6.

“There is absolutely a continuing need for food,” said Chris Nind, director of development and community relations.

With regard to these claims about human emissions of CO2 I have remained resolutely unconvinced. This has freed my mind of the fear and guilt associated with such claims, currently effecting millions worldwide, and has enabled me to ask a few pertinent questions which I among many others feel need answering in order to establish the truth about such claims. Not least of all, can these claims be tested? By which I mean that if a claim is made to the effect that CO2 traps heat for instance, can this claim be tested? The answer of course is yes it can. The purpose of this book then is to address these claims or rather accusations against us with regards our CO2 emissions with a rational, logical, guilt free and above all, questioning mind.
