Dr J. and Mr. K. Blog - Politics, Powder and Profit » Blog Archive » How objective science really works
Throughout the debate on world climate there’s been a narrative put forward, mostly by those concerned about carbon. The story goes that climate scientists, and really scientists in general, are a kind of intellectual priesthood. Robed in white lab coats, they work selflessly to uncover nature’s truths. They collaborate willingly and collegially. Their work is revealed, for the benefit of all humankind, in highbrow journals where peers judge each offering based on merit and scientific rigour and disclosure of data.

You won’t be surprised to hear that this is a myth.
...
Let me take the rest of this space to show, with examples from my very small corner of the scientific world, that the types of disputes seen in climate science may be the rule rather than the exception.
American Thinker Blog: Organizing the Coffee Party
...The "brainstorming" session became increasingly hard to follow as everyone seemed to be talking at once in liberal gibberish. Suddenly our scruffy grad student (Steve?) caught my attention by shifting the conversation to climate change. I bit my tongue as he told us that he have finally given up trying to convince "right wingers" about the dangers of man-made global warming because no matter how much evidence was presented they continued to deny the science. As he explained it, the best course of action was to promote "green energy", conservation and recycling as just being the right thing to do...until we can figure out how to pass Cap and Trade.

My head was spinning, when from across the room I heard a woman talking about how the Oil Companies were spreading lies about the Prius because it was too fuel efficient! Could sitting in a room full of liberals be causing me to hallucinate?

The insulation fiasco, the Green Loans blowout, the Solar Hot Water rebate cons ... and now another government big-money green scheme hits the rocks:
ANNE KRUGER::… Now what was once touted as the country’s largest non-hydro renewable-energy project is days away from going into receivership. If it does, the federal department that’s meant to foster green-energy projects will cop a lot of blame.

Do these errors mean the globe is not warming? No, but they demonstrate that the rigorous, objective scientific process has been abandoned in favor of political science. They also mandate that the EPA conduct a scientifically valid process before making a decision that could cost Americans trillions of dollars and thousands of jobs. Because the EPA failed to do its own independent scientific review, I am asking a court to order the EPA to do it.
