How do you convince people of global warming in a snowstorm? / The Christian Science Monitor - CSMonitor.com
Criticisms of climate change science are piling up as public concern wanes. But evidence of global warming continues to accumulate.
[Breaking: If it gets warmer, less insects will freeze to death]: Insect overwintering in a changing climate -- Bale and Hayward 213 (6): 980 -- Journal of Experimental Biology
Importantly, even though most species can invoke one or both of these responses, the majority of insects die from the effects of cold rather than freezing. Most studies on the effects of a changing climate on insects have focused on processes that occur predominantly in summer (development, reproduction) and on changes in distributions rather than winter survival per se. For species that routinely experience cold stress, a general hypothesis would be that predicted temperature increases of 1°C to 5°C over the next 50-100 years would increase winter survival in some climatic zones.
AFP: Global warming raises Taiwan typhoon danger
Scientists at Academia Sinica warned late last year that global warming would cause the amount of heavy rain dumped on Taiwan to triple over the next 20 years.
GLOBAL WARMING SPLITS ICE SHELVES AND FRIENDSHIPS
In a previous post, I mentioned that my best friend had fallen in with those who see global warming as the biggest hoax since the Piltdown Man. Our friendship has survived serious differences, in politic leanings for one – he’s conservative and I’m liberal. Of late, I’m troubled by the venom that has crept into his language: they’re gonna get these guys (the climate change fraudsters), he keeps telling me, almost rubbing his hands in anticipation...
