Kevin Rudd delays Emissions Trading Scheme, costing us millions | Herald Sun
THE Rudd Government's aborted emissions trading scheme has cost taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars without cooling the planet in the slightest.

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd confirmed his proposed global warming fix had been shelved until at least 2013.

But the Government has already invested heavily in the ETS. Budget documents show the Department of Climate Change, with a staff of 494, will have chewed through $215 million by July this year.

That includes $37 million to design and implement the ETS and $81 million for a special Climate Change Regulatory Authority to put the scheme in place.

In the meantime, the large sums now squandered on addressing anthropogenic "global warming" will be redeployed partly to increase funding for science in general, which has suffered at the hands of rapacious climate extremists, and partly to diminish the dangerously unsustainable national debt.
