Are we sure that it's not cold enough in Ottawa?

Ottawa to study effects of climate change on coasts
Gerry Byrne, the Liberal fisheries critic, said he's already seen extensive damage in his riding on the northern peninsula of Newfoundland and Labrador.

“We're seeing a rise in the intensity and the frequency of both summer and winter storms in the coastal zone," he said. “And it's eroding shorelines and causing property and habitat damage.

“We're seeing that more now than ever before."

Mr. Byrne sits on an all-party fisheries committee that issued a report last June recommending the government move on protections for small craft harbours and infrastructure.

He said it was stalled by the Conservatives' refusal to recognize climate change as a real phenomenon.

Because of its relatively warm summers, Ottawa is the seventh coldest capital in the world[16] by annual average temperature, however by mean January temperature, Ottawa ranks third behind Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia and Astana, Kazakhstan and has a colder average January temperature than Moscow, which is much farther north than Ottawa.

Snow and ice are dominant during the winter season. Ottawa receives about 235 centimetres (93 inches) of snowfall annually.
