Climate Common Sense: Ocean Acidification ? - The Sea is Alkaline You Dumbos!
Now Blind Freddie can see that with a pH of 8.1 ,a natural pH variation of 1.1 and a pH change of only .1 in the last century the sea will never turn acid and that the change attributed to AGW is negligible compared to the natural variation and all the wee sea beasties will not be dissolved in an acid bath of mankind's making!

It's not expected that further CO2 inputs into the ocean will turn it to acid. However, it will reduce the PH further. This impairs the calcium precipitating abilities of shelled creatures (including many of the single-celled algae that produce much of our oxygen). At current rates of CO2 output acceleration we are still 50-80 years from the PH reductions that left Earth almost devoid of life in the Permian extinction. So we have some leeway yet.
