Based on databases compiled by James Prall, a systems administrator at the University of Toronto's electrical and computer engineering department, the study analyzed the publishing background of 1,372 academics, concluding that at least 97 per cent of climate change researchers support evidence that humans are responsible for causing global warming.New Study Reaffirms Scientific Consensus on Climate Change | Union of Concerned [Junk] Scientists
The paper was authored by William Anderegg, a graduate student at Stanford University's biology department, along with Jacob Harold, Stephen Schneider and Prall, in order to compare the discrepancy between mainstream media coverage of controversies or debates about global warming with the actual research in scientific journals.

Overall, the study concluded that climate change skeptics who did legitimate research in peer-reviewed journals were averaging about 60 published papers in total versus an average of about 119 publications for climate change researchers who believe that humans are causing global warming.
"Unfortunately, some oil- and coal-industry-funded groups and ideologues are still feeding the public a steady diet of misinformation about climate change," Ekwurzel said. "Americans need to know that their health, their communities and their overall quality of life are all at risk from unchecked climate change. Fortunately, these baseless attacks on science have not stopped governments and businesses from beginning to think about how best to respond to climate change."
