Some skeptics think July 2010 may not have what it takes to break the record.

“I think it’s going to be really close,” said Stephen Fybish, an oft-quoted weather historian in New York. By his calculations, the last week would need to maintain an average of 80 degrees to beat the record — a daunting task.
