Spread of Deadly Cryptococcal Disease in U.S. Northwest Linked to Global Warming: "Scientific" American
Oregon epidemiologist Emilio DeBess, also the state veterinarian, cautioned against drawing direct links to climate change. "The answer is we really don't know," he said. "We need to step back a little bit and find out how diverse is this organism. That's going to tell us about the age – did it just show up or has it been here a long time."
...
DeBess was careful to put the Northwest's C. gattii outbreak in perspective. Only 60 cases have been detected over nearly six years in two or three states. Meanwhile 36,000 people die annually in the United States from influenza.
Roger Pielke Jr.'s Blog: Unit Conversion - A Million Votes
Political scientist Ray Fair calculates that in historical presidential elections, every 1% decrease in GDP results in a 0.7% decrease in vote share for the incumbent party...For selfish reasons alone, policymakers are going to be reluctant to impose any brakes on GDP, no matter how small those effects are argued to be. Climate policy will not succeed until the benefits are far more tangible and on the short term.
[Climate hoax promoter William M. Connolley: Not happy]
It looks like it is finally time to announce Judith Curry's departure for the dark side, prompted by her comments at RC. I still think she has good intentions, at heart, but has been "captured by the septic narrative" or somesuch. In some respects this intervention is fairly typical of her previous stuff - which is to say, she mouths off without having done her homework, then tries to back off. But the direction she mouths off in is very revealing.
IPCC 1990 fig 7.1.c, again : William M. Connolley
Obviously the *exciting* thing about that graph (if you're a bozo septic denialist) is that it shows that the MWP was warmer than it is now. Woot! Obviously what you think happened (if you're a fool) is that IPCC in 1990 was pure; it released this graph by mistake; but subsequent IPCC reports have had to supress it. Bring on the black helicopters! (I've said this before).
