Has there been a stupider public relations blunder than changing "global warming" to "climate change?"

I understand why they did it. For example, the weather in LA has been ridiculously nice and cool for the last month: 70 and sunny most days, without even much of the usual June Gloom. For once, my lawn looks great. I wore my heavy jacket to see the fireworks on July 4th for the first time in memory.

Remember when the stimulus bill was all about “infrastructure” and “green energy?” Way back in January of 2009 (sorry I am in I-told-you-so mode) I observed how less than 6% of the first two years spending appeared to be related to infrastructure. It turns out that this is exactly how it played out

...Which gets to the bottom of the bigger issue—that is, what is wrong with Assessment reports such as those from the IPCC.

Simply put, they reflect the opinion of experts rather than a comprehensive, or even unbiased, review of the scientific literature. The assumption that expert assessments draw upon the best scientific knowledge is a false one—what experts do drawn upon are their own ideas, some borne by their own work, and even if subsequent work seriously calls their own work into question, they stick to their old ideas. This is on display here, and also throughout the Climategate emails.
