DECC alone has had to find cuts of £85m from the budgets of the Carbon Trust, Energy Saving Trust, and offshore wind and geothermal energy projects.
The retreat of the ice was not started by fossil-fuel emissions. True, they contribute to the speed of the present great thaw, but they were not and are not its cause. It's been going on for a few million years and I suggest that before you sell the car and virtuously cancel all future travel involving the use of fossil fuel, you grab a copy of the summer edition of The American Scholar magazine and read professor Robert B. Laughlin's take on global warming, fossil fuels and the geologic time clock. A voice to respect, Laughlin comes well qualified on matters geologic. A professor of physics at Stanford University, he was co-recipient of the 1998 Nobel Prize for physics.Quadrant Online - Least-worst climate policy?
